RandD > 2009.03.31 (Tue) - Breakin' the rules

Had a pretty good day at work, got in early to let Tom in, he's a contractor and it was a state holiday so he needed someone to let him in the building. We had a good chat about his work, then got started working on the validation for one of the user interfaces. We had a lunch scheduled back at SGS, food was provided and we got some company updates while there. Afterwards we had a brief meeting about new business opportunities and then returned to finish out the day.

We had planned a "Guys movie night out" but nothing really looked that good so we opted to run over to subway and grab a bite to eat and then walked over to Starbucks for some coffee. We had some fun messing with the baristas, maybe a little harmless flriting, and then hung out and talked for a bit before taking off to grab a daily photo.

The Kaiser public affairs person has all but blown off my written request to take photos from the top of their parking garage. If you remember, last time I was there I was run off by the security guards because I didn't have permission. Since Bonnie never got back to me I figured I would just go snap a couple of outlaw shots from the parking garage and then take off before security could run us out of there. It was fun even if the shots weren't that good.

Well, back to the guys night out, hope you all had a nice day. Until tomorrow,

RandD > 2009.03.30 (Mon) - Sonset

Had a pretty good day, a typical Monday. Things were quiet, got some validation done on the UI. Ate lunch at my desk, took off a bit later than usual. Got home, I guess I was being grumpy but hey, what guy likes to go clothes shopping? Anyway, we left Khol's and the sun was setting so I drove west to Watt Avenue, then North to Baseline and found a side street to grab this shot of Brandon.

Time to turn in for the evening, hope you all had a great Monday.

Until tomorrow,

RandD > 2009.03.29 (Sun) - Bridge Mission

We really looked forward to an uneventful day after our horrible day yesterday!

Woke up early today, skipped church and met up at my Parents house. Chris and Kayla were still sleeping and Peyton got up just before we arrived. Jen was there, getting ready for church. We spent the morning hanging out, talking about the previous day. Chris and Kayla got up after a while, my Mom made breakfast and then we invited Chris's parents over to see Peyton. We all just hung out and spend the morning being a happy, grateful family.

Around noon we had to take off to get ready for Andrew Pillado's memorial service. My father still works with Andrew's father, I did for a few years. The service was very emotional, Andrew had such a big heart and he left behind many who, although a bit angry and confused, Loved him dearly. It was sad.

I got a chance to hug Art and Kathy, hugged some of my old co-workers from my print shop days. After the service we returned home and grabbed the camera and some cleaning supplies and headed off on a mission.

Last time Robin and I were on the Forrest Hill bridge we were appalled to see someone had tagged the call box at the middle of the span with the word "Jump". We talked about how terrible it is that someone would write something like that but never imagined that just a couple weeks later someone we knew would jump to his death from this very spot.

Robin and I walked out to the call box this afternoon with some scrub-brushes, a wire bristle brush, and a water bottle and I spent about five minutes removing the word from the call box. I don't know if it may have made a difference with Andrew, but I wish I had removed this earlier.

After this we grabbed a few shots and then drove back into Auburn where we grabbed a few shots of some historic buildings. We got a call from Kayla who informed us that she is expecting again! Whew, it was a whirlwind weekend and I am ready to turn in for the night.

I hope you all had a great weekend, until tomorrow,

RandD > 2009.03.28 (Sat) - Snow Day Scare [ more photos from our day ]

Today started well, I attended my new men's Bible study and learned a little about Abraham in Genesis 25-26. I opened up to the guys and shared something I've been struggling with and later learned of some great blessings that resulted. I stopped in and purchased some items from Jennifer at the start of her shift and then Robin and I headed up I-80 with Chris, Kayla, and Peyton. Chris drove, it was nice being a passenger. This was to be Peyton's first snow trip and we anticipated having great fun. Robin packed thermos's with hot Chili as usual, we thought we were well prepared for our trip.

We arrived around 1:30PM, spent some time sledding, throwing snowballs and laughing. We built the most awesome snowman of all, this time I brought the carrot, rocks for eyes and buttons, and branches for arms. We put a scarf and hat on our new frosty friend and then set up the tripod and grabbed some group shots.

We were having the most amazing fun together and just about then everything changed. Peyton, who will be two next Saturday, slipped down off a very small ledge, maybe eighteen inches or so, and then walked over to Kayla and grasped for her mom and went limp. Her eyes were wide open but she was completely unresponsive. She was not blinking, no eye movement, eyes dilated and fixed into a blank stare into the sky. We began to attempt to get her to respond but nothing came of our efforts. I noticed that she was not breathing and the mood quickly turned to one of fear and panic. Everything I had learned about first aid just evaporated and I felt myself becoming frantic. Chis got on the cell phone to call 911 and I laid Peyton down and began to attempt to start her breathing. I was doing everything I could remember, had her flat, tipped her neck back, checked for blockages. Her heart was beating but I could see her life slowly slipping away. I had already attempted two breaths into her mouth when I stopped and asked the Lord for strength. I asked him, "Please don't take our Peyton now, please help me remain calm and guide my actions." As soon as I did, I felt a little more calm and then resumed mouth-to-mouth. I had not been plugging her nose and the earlier attempts were not working because the air was just going in her mouth and out her nose. I plugged her nose and was able to begin filling her lungs with air on each breath. After what seemed like an eternity, she began to cough, and cry. Shortly after that I began to cry, we picked her up and carried her down the hill toward where we had parked. A CHP officer was pulling up just as we got to the truck, the paramedics arrived a minute later.

Peyton still didn't seem herself and none of us could be sure what had caused her to stop breathing so we decided we should be safe and let them take us to Truckee hospital to have her checked out. Kayla rode in the ambulance with Peyton, Chris, Robin and I followed them on the longest 10 minute drive ever. We arrived, got her checked in and spent the next seven hours waiting while they did blood work, virus tests, and x-rays. They wanted us to stay all the night for observation. Ultimately we got Peyton transferred to Kaiser Roseville, we drove the hour 1Hr 15mins back home and got her checked into our Hospital. The doctor said she was fine and released her about 11:30PM.

The doctors think she had a febrile seizure, it is somewhat common but we need to keep an eye on her. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers as I updated our status on Twitter / Facebook!

Until tomorrow,

RandD > 2009.03.27 (Fri) - Rocklin Oak Sunrise

Had a good day, got up early and took off for Rocklin to catch a sunrise shot. Grabbed a few shots before running back home to check on Brandon who sent a text to say he was saying home sick. Ran to Bel Air and grabbed some groceries for work and then headed for work. Attended an 8:30 meeting and had a muffin and then eturned to the DCA office to continue working on the current module.

Robin had a rough day, she headed home for bed and I finished out my day. Traffic was messy, got home and hugged everyone, ate and started our NetFlix DVD. (Transporter 3?) Shot all my photos in RAW this morning by mistake and I've been having issues with my RAW conversions lately, reinstalled some drivers and codecs and got everything working again. Processed this one from my morning and posting for the day.

Hope you all had a great day, until tomorrow,

RandD > 2009.03.26 (Thu) - Poppie, Peyton, and Kayla have fun at Lake Ellis

Had a good day at work today, had scheduled a lunch with Bobby when I got word that we were going to be having an SGS team lunch so I had to bail on my friend. We'll pick up next week. Lunch was good, just some shop talk but it was good hanging out with the team.

Returned after work, got the design questions answered and we are set to continue coding tomorrow. After work I drove out to see Kayla and Peyton. I took them into Yuba City for dinner at Red Robin and then we drove over to Lake Ellis to see the ducks and geese. Peyton loves chasing them around. The sun was low and there were a few minutes of some really warm light, I grabbed this shot of Peyton and her Mommie while we enjoyed the time together. Here are some more from the trip.

We stopped at Starbucks real quick and Kayla ran in to grab us some drinks, then I dropped them off at their place and zipped back home to see Robin and Brandon.

Hope you all had a good day, until tomorrow,

RandD > 2009.03.25 (Wed) - Robin, more than photogenic

Had a pretty good day, I read the news article about the death of my friend's son. When I learned this morning that Andrew had committed suicide it hit me hard. I hugged my son a little longer than usual and then drove straight over to see Art. He was back to work already and I knew he was probably having a tough time staying focused so I made it quick, giving him a hug, some kind words, and my phone number. He didn't say much, just that he didn't want to be there. I know how much he loved his son, it was really hard seeing the pain in his eyes. I can't imagine the depth of his sorrow and my prayers go out to him and the rest of his family.

I went to work and had a descent day, my petty worries were really put into perspective. Returned home and ate a light and healthy dinner with Robin before taking off to go see my Mom and Pop. After a brief visit and chat about Art, we ran out to Rocklin in search of a daily photo. We found a little park at the highest part of Rocklin where we sat and waited for the sun to set. Grabbed this shot before returning home.

Robin is truly my best friend, she is such a beautiful woman, inside and out. I love her so much and I can't imagine doing life without her, she stands by my side and loves me like no one else. Our children are almost all grown now, with Brandon being the last at home and we love them too. I am so lucky to have her to grow old with. I love you Robin!

Hope you all had a good day, say a prayer for Art, Kathy, and family.

Until tomorrow,

RandD > 2009.03.24 (Tue) - Had a pretty good day today, took the VERY long way into work today. I wanted to check in on a few smaller church buildings during the morning sunrise so I wandered all over the place on my way into work. None of them were all that photogenic so I eventually just gave up. I hit highway 50 near Watt Avenue and headed East toward work. I got to Bradshaw and noticed the Capital Christian Center just off the freeway and turned off to grab a shot.

Work was good, we have officially started writing code, whoo hooo! Paired up with Rob on some of the Rapid Application module and spent most of the day back and forth on his system and mine.

After work I grabbed some dinner, then took off with Brandon to get haircuts. After that I spoke to my Father for a bit, then Pat for a good long time and just now getting the chance to post my daily.

Hope you all had a great day, good to see all you smuggers on facebook. John, GetFillmore, and the others that have added me to their friends list... It's good to be in touch with you all.

Until tomorrow,

Darron

[3/28/2009] Utimately I didn't like the photo I posted for this day and I decided to end the weekly series in favor of shooting subjects based on inspiration without any contraints... Replacing the original post with one from the other day. - 1st time doing this.
RandD > 2009.03.23 (Mon) - Cathedral Monday

Had a good day, got up a little late, drove to my church in the morning looking for a daily shot. The sunrise was very orange and I had a shot in mind but there were some trees that needed to come down and I didn't have a chain saw so I passed on the shot. Drove into work and forgot my badge so I couldn't get in. I called Don but the number was forwarding incorrectly so I just hung out until the next state employee showed up and I rode in on their coat-tails.

Quickly checked my email and found some very kind notes from some of the new friends I met Saturday morning, seems like I have really found a good group of men to hang out with. I'm really looking forward to next Saturday!

The morning was fairly productive, Rob and I went to Quiznos for lunch, he is a pretty cool guy. We had a good chat over lunch. After lunch I resolved some of the issues I was having last Friday, took off about 4:30 and arrived home to find Robin cooking dinner. We ate together and then took off with the camera looking for a daily shot. We shot some churches in our area, then drove into Sacramento to grab this shot of the Cathedral on K street.

Returned home to Brandon who got back from his small group meeting right after we left. He is busy playing x-box, Robin has headed to our room and I am right behind her.

Hope you all had a great Monday and I wish you all an even better Tuesday!

Until tomorrow,
