RandD > 2009.05.01 (Fri) - New found friends (including Kamryn who actually took the photo) First off, here is a link to the rest of the photos from our SmugMug outting. Robin and I had a very nice day today, we got up early and went to the Thrive 2009 conference at our church, the morning session was awesome. We were so beat from all the fun we had yesterday that we actually went home around lunch and took a three hour nap while it rained. I am still a day behind in posting my dailies and had some pretty good shots from our morning but wanted to post a group shot from our day yesterday. I just can't tell you how great it was to spend the day with the neatest people I've met in a very long time. Robin and I joke around about how "socially retarded" we are and it really took us out of our comfort zone to go meet up with a bunch of people that we had never met before and I am so glad that we did. I don't know why we get nervous about meeting new people, I guess sometimes we worry about not fitting in but you know what... We really did, Lady Kate, Kamryn, Monica, and Hillary all made us feel very welcome. I just wanted to express again how much fun we had meeting up with our Smugmug friends. Thanks guys for sharing your lives with us the other day, we hope to build on the friendships we made. I hope you all had a great Friday, until tomorrow... Darron
RandD > 2009.04.30 (Thu) - God's Children Had an awesome day today, we got up early for our day's adventure with fellow Smugmug Daily Photo friends. We hit the road about 6AM, traffic wasn't too bad so we arrived at SmugMug Headquarters (SMHQ) a bit early. Robin and I drove around Mountainview a bit and got gas and washed the car. We returned in time to meet up with Hillary, Monica, Lady Kate, and Kamryn. We had never met in person and exhanged hugs and smiles before meeting up with Tony, one of the Owners of Smugmug. We were given a tour of their offices and got to meet some of the sorcerers of smug. They had the most spectacular photographs on display, many done by Tony's sons, some by customers, all AMAZING work! The employees were busy with the Thursday releases so we tried not to disrupt them too much or over stay our welcome, they were very friendly and shared a bit with us before they had to get back to work. After SMHQ we took two cars into the city and ended up at Pier 39 where we had lunch and spent some more time getting to know one another a bit better. Robin and I felt very comfortable from the start, we are very happy to call them all friends. After lunch we spent the day slowly walking the pier, smiling, laughing, sharing, and (of course) SHOOTING! Oh, and there was a fair amount of shopping which is to be expected considering five out of six were women! I was the only guy in the whole group and I had a blast with all the ladies! We must have been quite a site, each of us packing cameras and shooting each other and everything around us. At one point the ladies were in yet another shop goofing off and I just stood around outside shooting all the intersting people on the pier. I really liked the shot of this man in the wheel chair. He looked so handsome and there is something in his eyes that really struck me as pure and loving. I know our Father is particularly fond of him, I can't wait to meet him when he is no longer confined by his chair or his body. I was really struck by how we are all God's children and feel very lucky to have experienced His love today and to have shared our love for photography with our new friends. More than that, we shared a friendly love with one another, what a wonderful day I had! Well, we ended up near the Bay Brige shooting a bit there before the gang had to break up, Lady Kate and Kamryn had to part company, we left shortly after that. R and I drove Monica and Kate back to Berkley but not before stopping on Angel Island for a bit. Monica flipped out about all the wonderful spots for shooting, we stopped and played a bit longer before finally dropping them off at the Bart station. The drive home was long, we were tired and got a bit too much sun. We went straight to bed and left posting photos for the next day. Hope you all had a great day, to our new friends... RandD > 2009.04.29 (Wed) - I AM POPPY Had a good day, got in an hour early and continued working on the current module. Ran out to grab some fast food for lunch, and returned to eat at my desk so I could wrap up some screens for a walkthrough with the SME's. I took off at 3PM, stopped to get my hairs cut and then came home to wake up Robin. Playin' around with the rental, I grabbed this shot of one of the Poppies that is waiting to be planted in the back yard. Poppy is Peyton's nickname for me which explains the title. Lookin' forward to our S'Mug adventure tomorrow, I've got to get packed and ready so I decided to post this photo now so I can prepare for our trip. Hope you all had a great day, until tomorrow... RandD > 2009.04.28 (Tue) - Fast Food Tuesday Had a good day, stopped at Jack-in-the-Box for breakfast, had lunch with Bobby at Sunny Lee's, took Brandon to dinner at his favorite fast-food joint and grabbed this photo, first to guess the daily photo fast-food location wins! Work went well, made some more progress on the VR Application Vehicle module. Checked my email before lunch and I had an exception notification that FedEx had failed to deliver the camera/lens I rented from borrowlenses.com for the SF trip on Thursday. (Nobody home...) I called and made arrangements to pick up after work. Brandon and I drove out to pick up the D90 / Tamron 28-300 then stopped for dinner on the way back. We ate in, I grabbed the camera and played with it while we ate. Man does this thing have great noise reduction at high ISO. I think I shot this one at ISO3200! I really need to sell some toys so I can afford to get me a D90. Anyway, we are home now, Robin is still sleeping and tomorrow is our FRIDAY followed by a four day weekend! RandD > 2009.04.27 (Mon) - Resting Dragon Had a really good day today, got in early and got started on on coding on the current module. Ran some design ideas by Rob and made some pretty good progress. Ate lunch at my desk and then worked until 4:30 PM. Got home and had dinner with Robin. Grabbed a shot of the flowers in the front yard for yesterday's daily, then went out back to grab a shot for today. I was shooting the roses out back when I spotted this dragonfly sitting right in front of my nose. I grabbed several shots of him with the macro, this was my favorite. Counting down to Thursday, I am really excited about our photo adventure with some of our fellow daily photo members! Hope you all had a great Monday, I am going to sign off and go spend the rest of the evening with my sweetie and our son. Until tomrorrow... Darron
RandD > 2009.04.26 (Sun) - Lilly Yellow Sunday Had a great day, got up too early for service so Robin and I went to Panera Bread, our new favorite spot to eat. We enjoyed a pastry and a carmel latte together before taking off to Home Depot to kill some more time. I picked up some items to fix some broken sprinklers and we returned home for a bit. I ended up getting started on some yard work so we ended up missing service. We returned to HD and picked up some soil and flowers and what started out as a minor project, evolved into a full fledged, back-breaking, redo of our front planter area. My original plan was for a nice relaxing Sunday but the hard work was well worth it! The front planter looks awsome with several different flowers and bushes that should really fill the area in nicely. After returning the roto-tiller and cleaning up we relaxed and watched some TV together. After a prepackaged dinner we admired our work before turning in for the night. I grabbed this shot the following day, hope you all had a great Sunday. Until tomorrow... Darron
RandD > 2009.04.25 (Sat) - Had a nice day, I got up around 5AM to get ready to meet up with the guys for our Saturday morning bible study. I met Hayden at his place around 6:15, we picked up a couple of the others near by and all rode in together, it was nice. We've switched things up a bit and are taking some time to get to know one another a little better for the next month or so. Each of us is giving his testimony, I am more than a little nervous about it but I trust the guys completely. My fear is mostly self-centered as usual. Got home and helped to some spring cleaning in the kitchen, took almost until noon. Jen and B took off and grabbed us all Quiznos for lunch. Jen and the girls all took off to pick out brides maids dresses, Robin and I took off to visit with Kayla, Chris, and Peyton. We hung out, watched a great movie (Gran Torino) and then BBQ'd tri-tip and pork ribs for dinner. Dinner was great, we hung out a bit longer and then took off for a nice drive home. Robin and I took a detour to explore some areas we had never been, saw some really cool barns and farms that should be good to shoot in better lighting, we'll have to come back for some sunrise or sunset shots. We stopped near some rice fields and I grabbed this shot before we headed back home... Hope you all had a great Saturday, until tomorrow... Darron
RandD > 2009.04.24 (Fri) - Weeks End Got in to work early today, I had feedback from our first code review and had to address a few issues with my code. I addressed Robs comments and then Mike had some great suggestions. I really liked getting the feedback and learned a few tricks in the process. I am really looking forward to improving my development skills as we move forward. We were supposed to be taken to lunch by Mark but he called in sick and rescheduled. The network went down about 11AM we ended up taking an early lunch together, it was nice getting away for a bit. After lunch we met to go over some design questions, then got back to work after the network came back up. We had a couple of employees moving in all day, I think it will be nice having them around. Got home and Jen & Ricky were here, I got Robin up and took her out for dinner. We finally checked out Panera Bread, the food was great! After dinner we went to visit Robin's mom at the hospital. When we got out the sun was setting and the light was amazing. We didn't have much time and I pulled off in a nearby business park to grab this shot. RandD > 2009.04.23 (Thu) - Thursday Night Out Had a great day at work, got in early and reworked the unit test I re-coded yesterday. It worked just fine but way to many lines of code. Ened up using reflection for the first time and reduced my lines of code to 1/4 of what it was last night. I learned a great deal and ended up with some pretty clean code. Went to lunch with Bobby, Chipoltle... Next week we are going to meet on Tuesday as I won't be working Thursday of Friday. Next Thursday is our SmugMug outing with Hillary, Karen, Monica, & Kathy. We are going to meet in Berkley, visit SM HQ, then run into the city for a day of fellowship and photography! I can't wait, we rented another camera and lens so we don't have to share, it is going to be great!! Got home from work, picked up Robin, ran out to see Chris, Kayla, and Peyton. I cooked Peyton some "Flying Spagetti Monsters" with Cheese Sauce. Chris made us something more suited for adults. We hung out, laughed, rolled around, got and gave "Super Kisses & Hugs" (The latest of Peytons wonderful games) and then I ran off to grab a daily photo. Sun was very low and light not so great so another bracketed set of exposures to play around with some HDR effects. I went for something a bit unreal and liked it so here ya go....
